Why is craft time important?
At Hisaya International Preschool and Kindergarten in Nagoya, we know that kids love to get their hands on things. All the time! Craft Time is an excellent way to illustrate the weekly theme in a visible way that is very tactile and engaging for young learners.
Craft time also provides a natural opportunity for language development. As the students work together, we talk about colors, shapes, and materials.
Children are encouraged to describe what they are making and share their ideas with their teachers and friends. This helps build both vocabulary and confidence in communication.
Most importantly, craft time allows each child to be creative. Every child’s work is unique.
We value this individuality and encourage children to express themselves freely.
At first, some students do not have enough hand strength to use scissors, but as they continue to practice using, the muscles in their hands grow stronger and they are able to cut the paper better.
Through practice and encouragement students can improve and get the satisfaction of learning a new skill.
By the end of the school year, students are very proud of how well they can cut and enjoy showing off the paper they have cut to their teachers and friends.
